Thursday Update II

We learned that Mom has a new battle on her hands: her blood tests revealed an abnormally high level of calcium.  Normal range is between an 8 and a 10; Mom is at a 16.  So she is currently at Rochester Methodist Hospital, receiving IVs to remove the excess calcium.  The cause for the spike is likely the result of the cancer attacking the bones.  If it were left untreated, she would have experienced kidney failure.  In fact, she may have already been experiencing some symptoms of kidney failure.  Her stay at the hospital will help ease these symptoms.

Also, we learned that the radiation has not caused the tumors to shrink.  In fact, the tumor in her chest may have grown.

In spite of the bad news, there is a praise: her "good lung" has gotten stronger, causing her to decrease her oxygen tank levels from 5 liters to 4 liters.

Please continue to pray for strength for Dad, as he has averaged about 4-5 hours of sleep per night for the past month, on top of the emotional toll.  Pray also for wisdom, both for the doctors as well as for Mom and Dad.  Finally, keep praying that God would use all of this for His amazing glory.

We're so thankful for the support in the form of visits from their eldest daughter Lisa from California (arriving last night) and Pastor Steve and Pastor Reese from their church in Siloam Springs, AR (arriving tomorrow morning), as well as the meals that have blessed us all.
